Ordering a sod lawn

I am installing a sod lawn and need to know the area of the polygon it will occupy, without a transit, using only a tape measure.

For any polygon with more than 3 sides it is necessary to know the length of the diagonals as well as the sides.

This app determines the area of any polygon (ten sides or less) either by constructing the polygon to match the given site, or by inserting the data into a table and letting RunRev calculate the area.

In the first case the area is determined by finding the area under the (closed) curve, and in the other, breaking the polygon up into triangles and using Heron's formula.
